What should be said before we start eating?
'Umar bin Abu Salamah said: "Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me (once):
'Say Bismillah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you.'" (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
While eating or drinking, we should always thank Allah for His provision. It is He who provides us with the countless blessings on our tables that satisfy our hunger and thirst. So we should thank Him sincerely, striving to earn His Pleasure inshAllah.
Anas bin Malik narrated that Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
"Allah is pleased with the person who eats food and thanks Him for it, or drinks a drink and thanks Him for it." (Muslim)
