Make the Quran Your Best Friend
Make the Quran your best friend; the more you sit with it, the more it honours you, gives you its secrets and elevates your status.
If you want the Quran on your side in the next life, then have the Quran by your side in this life.

Reward of reciting Quran
‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said : “When somebody recites one letter from the Quran he will get one good deed in recompense which will be equal to ten good deeds. I do not say that Alif Lam Meem is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Meem is a letter (i.e it is equal to three letters).” [ At-Tirmithi].

Remembrance of Allah
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Who-ever says ‘Subhan Allahi wa bihamdi hi’, one hundred times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.” [ Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

First 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah
Among the great seasons of worship are the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, which Allaah has favoured over other days.
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah than these ten days.” They said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allaah?” He said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allaah, unless a man goes out himself for jihad taking his wealth with him and does not come back with anything.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2/457
It was also narrated from Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no deed that is better before Allaah or more greatly rewarded than a good deed done in the (first) ten days of al-Adha.” It was said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allaah?” He said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allaah, unless a man goes out himself for jihad taking his wealth with him and does not come back with anything.” Narrated by al-Daarimi, 1/357; its isnaad is hasan as stated in al-Irwa’, 3/398.
These texts and others indicate that these ten days are better than all other days of the year, with no exception, even the last ten days of Ramadaan. But the last ten nights of Ramadaan are better than the first ten nights of Dhu’l-Hijjah, because they include Laylat al-Qadr, which is better than a thousand months. See Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 5/412.

Only Your Deeds Remain
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
"The deceased is followed by three things; two go back and one remains with him. He is followed by his family, his wealth and his deeds, then his family and wealth go back and his deeds remain."
(Saheeh al Bukhari, 6514)

Giving Charity
A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, which charity brings the greatest reward?" He said, "If you give in charity when you are healthy and miserly, fearing poverty and hoping for richness. Do not delay until you are at the point of death and you say: 'Give this to so and so, give this to so and so,' when it already belongs to so and so."

A Hadith
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:
"Verily Allah likes three things for you and He disapproves three things for you.He is pleased with you that you worship Him and associate not anything with Him,that you hold fast the rope of Allah, and be not scattered;and He disapproves for you irrelevant talk, persistent questioning and the wasting of wealth."(Sahih Muslim vol.3 Book judicial Decisions Hadith 4255)

Seek Allah's Forgiveness
We must try to develop the habit of seeking Allah's forgiveness every day. For surely, ours sins are great. But the Mercy of Allah is far greater.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said "O people, repent to Allah, for I repent to Allah one hundred times a day." (Saheeh Muslim)
