Do not be Arrogant

Once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "He will not enter Paradise who has a grain of arrogance in his heart." Upon hearing this a man asked, "(What about) a person who may like his dress to be nice and his shoes to be nice?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "Allah is beautiful and likes beauty. Arrogance is to deny the rights and look down upon people."

Advice

Learn to do things for the sake of Allah. Keep the creation as a means to seek Allah's pleasure. Do not make the creation the end in itself.

Salah: Life’s Forgotten Purpose ( by Yasmin Mogahed)

An article by Sr Yasmin Mogahed:

Man has taken many journeys throughout time. But there is one journey that nobody has ever taken.
Nobody—except one.
On a vehicle no man has ever ridden, through a path no soul has ever seen. To a place no creation has ever before set foot. It was the journey of one man to meet the Divine. It was the journey of Muhammad ﷺ, prophet of God, to the highest heaven.
It was al Israa wal Miraaj (the magnificent journey).
On that journey Allah took his beloved prophet ﷺ to the seventh heaven—a place not even angel Gibreel could enter. In the Prophet’s mission on earth, every instruction, every commandment was sent down through angel Gibreel. But, there was one commandment that was not. There was one commandment so important, that rather than sending angel Gibreel down with it, Allah brought the Prophet ﷺ up to Himself.
That commandment was salah (prayer). When the Prophet ﷺ was first given the command to pray, it was to be fifty times in a day. After asking Allah to make it easier, the commandment was eventually reduced to five times a day, with the reward of the fifty.
Reflecting upon this incident scholars have explained that the process of going from fifty to five was a deliberate one, intended to teach us the true place salah should hold in our lives. Imagine for a moment actually praying fifty times a day. Would we be able to do anything else but pray? No. And that’s the point. What greater way than that to illustrate our life’s true purpose? As if to say, salah is our real life; all the rest that we fill our day with…just motions.
And yet, we live as if it’s exactly the opposite. Salah is something we squeeze into our day, when we find time—if that. Our ‘lives’ don’t revolve around salahSalah revolves around our ‘lives.’ If we’re in class, salah is an afterthought. If we’re at the mall, the Macy’s sale is more urgent. Something is seriously wrong when we put aside the very purpose of our existence in order to watch a basketball game.
And that is for those who even pray at all. There are those who have not only put aside their life’s purpose, they have abandoned it completely. What we often don’t realize about the abandonment of salah is this: No scholar has ever held the opinion that committing zina(fornication) makes you a disbeliever. No scholar has ever held the opinion that stealing, drinking or taking drugs makes you a disbeliever. No scholar has even claimed that murder makes you a non-Muslim. But, about salah, some scholars have said he who abandons it, is no longer Muslim. This is said based on ahadith such as this one: “The covenant between us and them is prayer, so if anyone abandons it, he has become a disbeliever.” [Ahmad]
Imagine an act so egregious that the Prophet ﷺ would speak about it is such a way. Consider for a moment what satan did wrong. He didn’t refuse to believe in Allah. He refused to make one sajdah. Just one. Imagine all the sajdahs we refuse to make.
Consider the seriousness of such a refusal. And yet, think how lightly we take the matter ofsalah. Salah is the first thing we will be asked about on the Day of Judgment, and yet it is the last thing that is on our mind. The Prophet ﷺ said: “The first thing which will be judged among a man’s deeds on the Day of Resurrection is the Prayer. If this is in good order then he will succeed and prosper but if it is defective then he will fail and will be a loser.” [Tirmidhi]
On that Day, the people of paradise will ask those who have entered Hell-fire, why they have entered it. And the Qur’an tells us exactly what their first response will be: ”What led you into Hell Fire? They will say: ‘We were not of those who prayed.’” (Qur’an, 74:42-43)
How many of us will be among those who say “we were not of those who prayed, or we were not of those who prayed on time, or we were not of those who made prayer any priority in our lives?” Why is it that if we’re in class or at work or fast asleep at the time of fajr and we need to use the restroom, we make time for that? In fact, the question almost sounds absurd. We don’t even consider it an option not to. And even if we were taking the most important exam of our lives, when we need to go, we will go. Why? Because the potentially mortifying consequences of not going, makes it a non-option.
There are many people who say they don’t have time to pray at work or school, or while they’re out. But how many have ever said they don’t have time to go to the bathroom, so while out, at work or school have opted instead to just wear Depends? How many of us just don’t feel like waking up at Fajr time if we need to use the bathroom, and choose instead to wet our bed? The truth is we’ll get out of bed, or leave class, or stop work, to use the bathroom, but not to pray.
It sounds comical, but the truth is we put the needs of our body above the needs of our soul. We feed our bodies, because if we didn’t, we’d die. But so many of us starve our souls, forgetting that if we are not praying our soul is dead. And ironically, the body that we tend to is only temporary, while the soul that we neglect is eternal.

The Goal of Every Believer

The ultimate goal of every believer should be to earn the pleasure of Allah, and, through it, Paradise. So if this really is the goal of the believer, he should ask for it in every single dua that he makes, day and night, morning and evening. And if a person finds that he does not ask frequently for Paradise, then he must ask himself how important it is to him, and re-evaluate the priorities that he has made for himself.

The Last Sermon (Khutbah) of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) delivered his last sermon (Khutbah) on the ninth of Dhul Hijjah (12th and last month of the Islamic year), 10 years after Hijrah (migration from Makkah to Madinah) in the Uranah Valley of mount Arafat.

After praising, and thanking Allah he said:
"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and TAKE THESE WORDS TO THOSE WHO COULD NOT BE PRESENT HERE TODAY.
O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your LORD, and that HE will indeed reckon your deeds. ALLAH has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has Judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn ‘Abd’al Muttalib (Prophet’s uncle) shall henceforth be waived…
Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.
O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah’s trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.
O People, listen to me in earnest, worship ALLAH, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.
All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.
Remember, one day you will appear before ALLAH and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.
O People, NO PROPHET OR APOSTLE WILL COME AFTER ME AND NO NEW FAITH WILL BE BORN. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the QURAN and my example, the SUNNAH and if you follow these you will never go astray.
All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O ALLAH, that I have conveyed your message to your people".

Hadith

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Every one will be raised in the condition in which he dies". [Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith has a meaning similar to the one quoted at another place which signifies that if a person dies performing good deeds, he will have a good end; and the one who dies in misdeeds, he will come to a bad end. It is, therefore, necessary that one should always avoid disobedience of Divine injunctions, especially in old age and illness because one may fall in the clutches of death at any time .

Your Deeds

On the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: " Allah does not judge according to your bodies and appearances, but He scans your hearts and looks into your deeds."

Reflecting on the gifts from Allah

Mufti Ismail Menk:

The gifts of the Almighty upon us are so many that we would never be able to count them all.

Sadly we concentrate on the few issues that He has tested us with and become ungrateful, forgetting the countless gifts we have.

Let us dedicate some time on a regular basis to ponder over what we have been given and express gratitude to Our Maker through our words and deeds.

The Almighty has taught us that the way to increase the goodness we have been bestowed with is through gratitude. "If you are grateful, I shall indeed increase you (in goodness)" S14:V7

Double-faced People

Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "The worst people before Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be the double-faced people who appear to some people with one face and to other people with another face. "

Those who remember God most

Ibn Abil-Dunya mentioned in a hadith reliably transmitted from the first generation that when the Prophet, peace be upon him, was asked which of the people who frequented the mosque were best, he answered, 'Those who remember God most.' When asked which of the people who attended a funeral were best, he answered, 'Those who remember God most.' When asked which warriors were best, he answered, 'Those who remember God most.' When asked which pilgrims were best, he answered, 'Those who remember God most.' And when asked which of those who visited the sick were best, he said, 'Those who remember God most.' At which Abu Bakr said, 'Those who remember have taken all the good!'

Virtues of the Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah

The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are approaching inshAllah. What is so special about these upcoming ten days?

Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah than these ten days." The people asked, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah?" He said, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 2/457).

Prepare yourself in advance. Think about how you will make the most out of these ten special days inshAllah. Here are some pieces of advice:

1. Increase dhikr (remembrance of Allah)
For instance, recite lots of Tasbeeh ("Subhan-Allaah"), Tahmeed ("Al-hamdu Lillaah") and Takbeer ("Allaahu akbar"), Tahleel ("La ilaaha ill-Allaah") . Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allaah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel ("La ilaaha ill-Allaah"), Takbeer and Tahmeed." (Reported by Ahmad, 7/224; Ahmad Shaakir stated that it is saheeh).
2. Fasting. - The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhu’l-Hijjah. It was narrated from Hunaydah ibn Khaalid from his wife, that one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhu’l-Hijjah and the day of ‘Ashoora’, and three days each month, the first Monday of the month and two Thursdays. Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 4/205 and by Abu Dawood; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 2/462.
3. Increase your Duas

4. Perform Qiyam (Night Prayers)

5. Recite the Holy Quran. Recite it in Arabic as well as a language you know best to understand its meanings.

6. Give Charity

7. Sincere repentance for your sins

8. Shield yourself from the haraam and sins. Strive to become a better servant of Allah by adhering to what he has commanded.

Seeking Happiness

Happiness in its entirety cannot be found in society. Happiness in its entirety cannot be found in people.

It cannot be found in friends nor can it be found in your career or material objects.

Happiness in its entirety only lies with Allah swt.

Seek it through him by submitting to him and building your relationship with Him.

Obey Him and Fear Him. That is eternal happiness.

Growing Elements of Success in your Life

Why Seek Success?
These days with so many distractions around us laziness, heedlessness and wasting of time are traps that we as humans beings are easily guilty of falling into. These elements of unproductivity should be dealt with seriousness given the deep consequences they can provoke in the long term. Our lives have not been created to be wasted. Every moment counts. As Muslims, we need to devote our lives to seek real success while avoiding sins and the traps of unproductivity as much as possible. The life of our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon) was filled with initiatives and we should strive to do the same. Not only is seeking success critical at an individual level, but important for the Ummah to grow and flourish.  One day we will be standing before our Lord, held accountable for our deeds and how we spent our lives. The present world is a fertile soil for us and a means to cultivate fruits of success. We need to understand how to take care of this fertile soil before it is too late.

What is Success?
To be able to understand real success , it is imperative for us to understand the purpose of our existence.  It is clear that mankind has been created with the purpose of worshipping Allah alone.

“And I (Allaah) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone)”
[al-Dhaariyaat 51:56]

We are asked to believe in Allah, to submit to Him, to love Him and to obey His Commands. The Straight Path defined by our Lord is the only path that will nurture the fruits of success in both this world and in the Hereafter.

“Whoever works righteousness — whether male or female — while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)”
[al-Nahl 16:97]

“But those who believe, love Allaah more (than anything else)”
[al-Baqarah 2:165]

'Success' does not lie alone in the path towards material resources nor does it lie alone in commonly pursued desires such as honor and prestige. Allah swt tells us that true and eternal success can be obtained by loving Allah more than anything else and by following His Straight Path through righteous deeds which He has prescribed for us clearly in the Quran and the Sunnah. Righteous deeds are those acts of obedience that have been enjoined on us and should be done purely for the sake of Allah swt. They are either obligations or commendable actions outlined in the Quran and the Sunnah.

Hence our ultimate goal should be to believe in Allah and His Oneness, to love Him more than anything else and to worship Him alone with humility whereas our daily actions should originate from this belief. Our faith should not be something that is detached from our realities or something that vanishes once we finish our salah or leave the masjid. Rather it should be incorporated fully into our lives. We need to develop the understanding and knowledge that will enable us to see how each action in our lives can bring us closer to Allah. Through such alignment, we will begin to perceive the value of each deed based on how it draws us closer to Allah. Such an alignment can give us the ability to realize our full potential and to be productive no matter what the circumstances. Building our identity around the love for Allah can give rise to motivation and actions that are righteous and pleasing to Allah hence setting the grounds for true success.

To elaborate on this, let's look at a brief example. Suppose someone goes to work every morning but experiences tiredness and laziness with little motivation. Instead of maintaining such an approach, that person should immediately think of how that very action can bring him/her closer to Allah. There are many ways to look at this particular situation. Perhaps that person should try to be more patient for Allah's sake even when things get difficult and stressful. He/she could also develop an intention to spend their salary on their family and others who are in need as an act of charity. Furthermore, as an employee, that individual is entrusted with the employer to do their job right and to get things done. Given the mutual agreement, that person should fear Allah and maintain the trust with the employer. They should be honest and committed in their work and remember the following hadith - Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah loves, when one of you does a thing, that he should do it well.”[1]

Thus we should try our best to seek the reward from Allah swt through our daily activities as much as possible. Endeavouring to adapt such a mindset can open doors to real accomplishments, productivity and eternal success. Choosing our actions according to what pleases Allah can give us the ability to grasp the essence of life and discover inner peace. It can allow us to taste the sweetness of faith and worship while adhering to the remembrance of Our Creator.

Allah says (intepretation of the meaning):
Say: "Truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death are (all) for Allah, the Cherisher of the Worlds
[Al- Anaam 6:162]

May Allah make us amongst those who are successful in this world and in the Hereafter.

The Beauty of Prostration

Thauban (May Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying, "Perform Salah more often. For every prostration that you perform before Allah will raise your position one degree and will remit one of your sins". [Muslim].

Commentary: Abundance of prostrations means strict observance of Salat and performance of obligatory and optional and voluntary prayers, it is a means for atonement of sins and the elevation of one's status in this life and the Hereafter.

Enjoining Good, Forbidding Evil

"Enjoining Good, Forbidding Evil" - By Ibn Taymiyyah
Translated by Salim Abdallah ibn Morgan

Remembrance of Allah

Remembering Allah is a way to bring ease and peace to the heart. It certainly is one of the ways to keep one's heart alive. Remember the countless blessings and favours Allah has bestowed upon us. Remember the Greatness of Allah. To Him belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He has power over everybody and everything. Allah is the Only True God Who Alone deserves to be worshipped.

We must strive to remember Allah at all times, in times of ease and hardship. As Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allâh, Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest." (Al-Rad, 28)

Turn Your Heart Towards Allah

Seek the help of people, but realize that it is not the people (or even your own self) who can save you. Only God can do these things. The people are only tools, a means used by God. But they are not the source of help, aid or salvation of any kind. Only God is. The people cannot even create the wing of a fly (22:73). And so, even while you interact with people externally, turn your heart toward God. Face Him alone, as Prophet Abraham said so beautifully: "For me, I have set my face, firmly and truly, toward Him Who created the heavens and the earth, and never shall I give partners to Allah." (Quran 6:79)

Laylat ul-Qadr

"The Night of Power is better than a thousand Months." (Al Qadr: Verse 3)

Laylat ul-Qadr is the most blessed night. A person who misses it has indeed missed a great amount of good. If a believing person is zealous to obey his Lord and increase the good deeds in his record, he should strive to encounter this night and to pass it in worship and obedience. If this is facilitated for him, all of his previous sins will be forgiven.

Performing Night Prayer (Qiyam)

It is recommended to make a long night prayer during the nights on which Laylat ul-Qadr could fall. This is indicated in many hadiths, such as the following:

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever stands (in qiyam) in Laylat ul-Qadr [and it is facilitated for him] out of faith and expectation (of Allah's reward), will have all of his previous sins forgiven." [Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Ahmad]

Making Supplications

It is also recommended to make extensive supplication on this night. Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that she asked Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! If I knew which night is Laylat ul-Qadr, what should I say during it?" And he instructed her to say: 'Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwa fafu annee - O Allah! You are forgiving, and you love to forgive. So forgive me.'" [Recorded by Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and at-Tirmithi. Verified to be authentic by Al-Albani]

Last Ten Nights of Ramadan

It was the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to spend the last ten nights of Ramadan in worship.

Narrated 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): "When the last ten nights (of Ramadan) began, Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would keep awake at night (for prayer and devotion), awaken his family and prepare himself to be more diligent in worship" (Muslim)

In another version of the Hadith, 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to strive more (in worship) during the last ten nights of Ramadan than he did during any other time". (Muslim)

Easy Deeds with TREMENDOUS Rewards

Pray just two rak'ahs after sunrise & receive loads of reward!

Abu Dharr reported: The Prophet (sallAllahu ’alayhi wasallam) said, "In the morning, charity is due on every joint bone of the body of everyone of you. Every utterance of Allah's Glorification (i.e., saying Subhan Allah) is an act of charity, and every utterance of His Praise (i.e., saying Al-hamdu lillah) is an act of charity and every utterance of declaration of His Greatness (i.e., saying La ilaha illAllah) is an act of charity; and enjoining M`aruf (good) is an act of charity, and forbidding Munkar (evil) is an act of charity, and two Rak`ah Duha prayers which one performs in the forenoon is equal to all this (in reward).''

[Saheeh Muslim Book 4, Hadith 1557]

Commentary: "Charity is due from every joint bone" means that when a person gets up in the morning, it is obligatory for him to thank Allah for having every joint of his intact. Therefore, one must praise and glorify Allah. Since a single invocation of the words mentioned in this Hadith is equivalent to one Sadaqah, one must say these words for 360 times - a number which equals the number of joints in man's body. Moreover, to enjoin someone to do what is good and dissuade somebody from vice constitutes Sadaqah. However, if one performs two Rak`ah of Duha prayer, it will serve for Sadaqah for all the joints of the body. Thus, this Hadith highlights the merits and importance of Duha prayer. We also learn from this Hadith that Sadaqah is not restricted to spending money alone but also has a vast meaning and covers all forms of virtues mentioned here.

Virtues of Surah Ikhlaas

Try to recite Surah Ikhlaas as much as possible. Don't miss out this huge reward especially in Ramadan!

Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to his Companions: ‘Could any one of you not recite one third of the Qur’aan in one night?’ They found the idea too difficult, and said, ‘Who among us could do that, O Messenger of Allaah?’ He said, ‘Allaahu’l-ahad, al- samad [i.e., Soorat al-Ikhlaas] is one third of the Qur’aan.’”
(Reported by al-Bukhaari, 4628)

From Qutaadah ibn al-Nu’maan (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said that a man stayed up to worship Allaah at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) just before dawn and recited “Qul huwa Allaahu ahad,” but did not recite anything else. In the morning, the man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and told him about this, thinking that perhaps he was not doing enough. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “By the One in Whose hand is my soul, it is equivalent to one-third of the Qur’aan.”
(al-Bukhaari, 4627).

Sujud (Prostration)

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), said:
"The closest any worshipper can be to his Lord is while he is in prostration, so increase your duas in it." [Muslim]

Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
"I have been prohibited from reciting the Quran while in ruku or sujud, so during ruku, glorify your Lord, and during sujud, exert yourself in making dua, for it is very likely that you will be responded to." [Muslim]

The Mercy of Allah

“Say: “O ‘Ibaadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allaah, verily, Allaah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft‑Forgiving, Most Merciful”
[al-Zumar 39:53]

“And whoever does evil or wrongs himself but afterwards seeks Allaah’s forgiveness, he will find Allaah Oft‑Forgiving, Most Merciful”
[al-Nisa’ 4:110]

The Beauty of Helping Others

"A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allâh will fulfil his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allâh will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allâh will screen him on the Day of Resurrection."
[Bukhâri]

Gates of Goodness

On the Authority of Muaadh Ibn Jamal (may Allah be pleased with him) the Prophet, (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), said, "Shall I not inform you of the gates of goodness? [They are] fasting [which] is a shield, charity [which] extenguishes the sins like water extinguishes a fire and the prayer of a man in the depths of the night."

Never Lose Hope

The Almighty answers every call of ours for as long as we don't lose hope. We must continue seeking enthusiastically even if it means for years.

Repeating a call constantly is a GREAT act of worship. One day, when the time is right, we will get what we had been asking for all along.

Never lose hope in the Mercy of the Almighty, as He knows when it is best for us to get what we want, if it is good for us.

Those who aim to please the Creator will always be pleased BY Him. He never lets us down but we let ourselves down by engaging in sin.

A Special Month filled with Blessings

Ramadan is a time where one can focus on leaving bad habits for new ones and train the mind, body, and soul to return to its true purpose: to worship Allah (glorified and exalted be He) through our statements and actions. It is a time of great sacrifice benefit and multiple rewards.

“O People! The month of Allah (Ramadan) has come with its mercies, blessings and forgiveness. Allah has decreed this month the best of all months. The days of this month are the best among the days, and the nights are the best among the nights, and the hours during Ramadan are the best among the hours. This is a month in which you have been invited by Him (to fast and pray). Allah has honored you in it. In every breath you take is a reward of Allah, your sleep is worship, your good deeds are accepted and your invocations are answered. Therefore, you must invoke your Lord in all earnestness with hearts free from sin and evil, and pray that Allah may help you to keep fast, and to recite the Holy Qur’an. Indeed!” [Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 1965]

Your Heart is the Pillar of Your Worship

The heart is the machine that drives all acts of worship. It is what moves the entire body! As long as the heart is alive, then the limbs will be alive, and the soul will open itself up to worship. However, if the heart becomes diseased, then worship will become too heavy on the soul, leading to it eventually disliking and hating - and we seek refuge with Allah from this - worship. Because of this, Allah - the Glorified and Exalted - said, regarding the prayer:

{"...and truly, it is extremely heavy and hard except on those who are submissive..."} [al-Baqarah: 45]

The prayer is heavy, because one's legs and hands are not what get up for the prayer. What gets up for the prayer are the heart and the soul.

{"Verily, the hypocrites seek to deceive Allah, but it is He Who deceives them. And when they stand up for the prayer, they stand with laziness and to be seen of men, and they do not remember Allah but little."} [an-Nisa': 142]

Because of this, it is the heart that stands up for worship. The limbs are simply slaves of this heart, carrying out what it commands them. If the heart is alive, then the soul will be alive, and worship will become beloved and sweetened to the hearts and the souls, and they will open up for it.

Reminder

When you drink water, remember it is from Allah!
When you eat, remember this food is a gift from Allah!

Everything you see, hear and feel are created by Allah for a purpose, and one of the biggest reasons behind the creation is to tell you about Allah!

Everything in this world tells you something about Allah and thus has the potential to bring you closer to him, if you just reflect!

Beware of Arrogance and Pride!

Sufyaan bin Uyainah said •►"Whoever’s sin was because of [carnal] desires, hope for him (as he may repent and be forgiven), but whoever’s sin was out of pride, fear for him. For indeed, Adam sinned out of simple desire, and was forgiven; whereas Iblis sinned out of pride, and was cursed."

May Allah protect us from arrogance & pride! Aameen!

Important Reminder

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “whoever sends blessings upon me, Allaah will send blessings upon him tenfold.”
Narrated by Muslim (384)

Performing Good Deeds Frequently

"The best of deeds are those carried out regularly even if they are little deeds. " Hadith

Never underestimate the reward of punctuality upon a small deed that is very easy to fulfill or achieve.

Regularity or punctuality upon little deeds, is much more rewarding than huge deeds that are not fulfilled except haphazardly.

Do not be from those who have a tendency to start off something really good, but give up after a while. Be strong and keep going.

May the Almighty strengthen our resolve to be regular in fulfilling our good deeds even if they are little. Aameen

Good Manners

Good manners dictate that you should reciprocate the one who does you a favour. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined that and said: “Whoever does you a favour, then reciprocate, and if you cannot find anything with which to reciprocate, then pray for him until you think that you have reciprocated him.” Narrated by Abu Dawood (1672); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.

If you are not able to reciprocate with a gift, or helping with some task, or offering some service, etc, then at least you can say du’aa’ for him, and this du’aa’ may be a means of bringing him happiness in this world and in the Hereafter.

One of the best forms of du’aa’ for the one who has done you a favour is that which is mentioned in the Sunnah:

It was narrated that Usaamah ibn Zayd (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever has a favour done for him and says to the one who did it, ‘Jazak Allaahu khayran,’ has done enough to thank him.”
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1958) and by al-Nasaa’i in al-Sunan al-Kubra (6/53); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

Paradise and Hell

Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Paradise is surrounded with difficulties and Hell is surrounded with desires.”

Being saved from Hell and becoming deserving of Paradise requires great self-discipline and strict intellectual and spiritual training.

Hell is an abode of torment placed within an attractive setting of enticing lures and pleasures. If we are captivated and live only to satisfy such desires, we are lured toward Hell. To reach Paradise, we first have to train ourselves to ignore worldly attractions.

To reach Paradise, we must persevere, endure affliction, perform what is obligatory, avoid sin, and thank God for His bounties and blessings.

Focus in Salah

Imagine the moment you do your salah with complete focus and engagement, feeling who you stand before and you heart seems to depart this world to dwell for a few minutes in Paradise in the presence of its Creator!
How huge our loss is when we pray the prayer just to get it off our shoulders!

Prayer is the sample taste of Paradise Allah gives to those who truly love Him and look forward for the next prayer!

Your feelings towards the next prayer reflects your feelings about meeting Allah; either looking forward to it or trying to get over with, and all will show at the time of death!

For Sake of Allah

Remember that if a person gives up something for the sake of Allaah, Allaah will compensate him with something better than it, and that He will provide for the one who fears Him, and He will bless him and provide for him from sources he could never imagine.

Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, says:

"And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allâh, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allâh will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allâh has set a measure for all things. " [al-Talaaq 65:2-3]

Quote

Shaykh ibn al-Uthaymeen rahimahullah beautifully said:

“By Allah, sins effect the security of a land; they effect its ease, its prosperity, its economy; and they effect the hearts of its people. Sins cause alienation between people. Sins cause one Muslim to regard his Muslim brother as if he were upon a religion other than Islam.
But if we sought to rectify ourselves, our families, our neighbors, and those in our areas, and everyone we are able to rectify, if we mutually encouraged good and forbade evil, if we assisted those who do this with wisdom and wise admonition- then it would produce unity and harmony.”

The Excellence of Reciting the Quran

Abu Umamah Radhiallahu ‘anhu narrated that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: “ Read the Qur’an (regularly) for it will act as an intercessor for its readers on the Day of Resurrection.” Narrated by Muslim.

Uthman Radhiallahu ‘anhu narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “ The best among you (muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it (to others).” Narrated by Al-Bukhari.
